3,200 tonnes of steel construction & secondary steel construction

In March 2020, Lausitzer Stahlbau Ruhland GmbH was honoured by the Mitsubishi Power Europe GmbH the order to Production of around 3,200 tonnes of steel construction for the „VW West“ construction project in Wolfsburg.

In February 2021, as part of an order extension, we also took over the Workshop planning including final model processing, connection statics and the creation of workshop and assembly plans for secondary steel construction at the Wolfsburg site.

Scope of services: Engineering, fabrication & structural steel erection

For this challenging industrial project in the Power plant and plant steel construction comprised our service portfolio:

• Engineering and workshop planning

• 3D model processing and connection statics

• Creation of workshop and assembly plans

• Production of approx. 192 tonnes of secondary steel construction

• Production of approx. 2.4 tonne ladders

• Production of approx. 4.4 t railings

The railings were manufactured in collaboration with our partner company Groom and wolf in Kamenz.

Corrosion protection & coating according to C2 and C3

The Coating of the steel structure, railings and ladders was carried out entirely within the company.

The execution took place:

• to Corrosivity class C2 for indoor areas

• to Corrosivity class C3 for outdoor areas

• as 2-layer system

• in different RAL colours defined by the client

Our in-house coating process ensures the highest quality standards in the area of Corrosion protection in steel construction.

Logistics & just-in-time delivery to Wolfsburg

The finished coated components were temporarily stored on the premises of Lausitzer Stahlbau Ruhland GmbH.

After call-off by Mitsubishi Power Europe GmbH, we took over:

• Packaging of the steel components

• Loading onto the lorries provided

• on schedule Just-in-time delivery to the construction site

Due to the very limited space available for assembly and storage at the Wolfsburg site, a precisely coordinated logistics concept was required to ensure a smooth construction process.
