Lusatian steel construction and the old mill wheel are an important part of the town of Ruhland. That is why we have been supporting the preservation of this landmark for many years.
The Matzmühle mill was in operation until 1943, after which the mill wheel stood still for a long time. In 1985, the mill wheel was extensively reconstructed by the Ruhland building department.
This was no easy task, as the craftsmen only had the remains of the old mill wheel, with a diameter of 5.08 metres, to work from. Old drawings and construction documents were no longer available.
In the meantime, the mill wheel is being repaired again and again in order to preserve it for future generations. We are grateful to the volunteer members of the local heritage association for their tireless efforts to preserve the
